I think I see you peeking through the middle. Do you have a translator or do most of these volunteers know English?


Ni hao! (Hello!) Three of the smiling faces you see are graduate students (in education), and they all have good English skills. Everyone else has what I'd call beginner skills, and they're dedicated, fast learners, so they're learning new English a lot faster than I'm learning new Mandarin. Laura, the woman in the second photo (slapping her head at something I said, no doubt), is the Assistant Director (paid staff), and she's acting as my left hand (since I'm left handed)! She's terrific!
