These six inch squares are my first (self-taught) attempt at Japanese sashiko stitching. I've read a couple books, and I think I understand most (or at least some) of the rules, and now I'm ready to find a teacher to help me with my technique.
The fabric is a meter of pre-marked sashiko cloth from Japan. The stamped markings will wash out once the stitching is completed. There are seven different designs, all of which I've completed. I have a couple possible projects in mind to keep going with this, but the primary purpose was to begin to learn this traditional art.
This really wonderful. I would enjoy trying this also.

Thanks, Etty. It's a fascinating process. I loved seeing the spring photos of Betar Illit on your blog! It's great to see what everyone in your quilting group is working on--beautiful designs!

Lovely! I'm going to have to try this. I look forward to seeing how you incorporate this technique into some of your small art pieces. Do you have some planned for the Blue Moon series?

Thanks for stopping by, Meg! This is a good site: www.designbyaika.com/ There are several online tutorials here as well as a shop with marked and unmarked sashiko fabric.
