Play may be the "work" of childhood, but it's also a welcome respite from adult world stress. After a tough Mandarin lesson, and feeling the isolation of being mostly apartment-bound (cast/crutches, still) in a new city, I opted for process over product and played today!
This little doll is an adaptation of various patterns, with Red Robin's "Ruby Doll" exerting the most influence. She's about 14" tall and stuffed with quilt batting. But first, I had to figure out how to draw her face (with materials on hand-- a fine line black marker and red ball point pen).
Next, a version of "Wendy the Bird" by LollyChops.com, to which I added a different set of wings. (I'm sorry I haven't figured out how to add direct links here. It seems that some of the buttons and bells are blocked here in China, even on this paid blog.)

Finally, I played my way through doll and bird land back to my three Chinese lantern blocks, which are on their way to becoming placemats, a utilitarian use that appeals to me.
One almost finished (binding required) and two to go. I heavily quilted the boarders and background to stand up to repeated machine washing.
You have really been busy. Placemats are a better idea than the wall hanging I suggested. Doll is cute and I love the little bird.
